WOW! One word
describes my thoughts about the Folkstyle Wrestling season
for the Avon Wrestling Club. We started the Season back in
November with 90 members, throughout the season it grew to
over 120 wrestler's covering grades K -11. For the second
year in a row we divided the members into two divisions; The
Black Team was for wrestler's who had 2 years or less in
experience and the Gold Team was for wrestler's that had
more than 2 years experience. The Gold Dual meet team
finished their regular season with a 12-1 record, finished
runner-up at the Cathedral Elementary Duals and captured
first place at the Bloomington South and Southmont
Elementary Duals. In mid January regular folkstyle season
started and it was exciting to see so many AWC wrestler's
competing at the ISWA weekend sanctioned tournaments. On
February 22nd we hosted our first ISWA sanctioned
tournament, The Avon Beginner's Tourney, another great
success to our season. Finally, this past week at the ISWA
State Tounament, twenty five wrestler's attended and eleven
wrestler's finished in the top eight in their weight class.
We have had state champs but never a contingency of 25
WRESTLERS and 11 WRESTLERS returning home with medals around
their necks.
COMMITMENT and DEDICATION,
two words that come to mind as I think about the Coaching
Staff, Parents and Wrestlers that are now apart of the AWC
wrestling family. Wrestling is a unique sport, when you
become a wrestler you become apart of the wrestling family.
One spends countless hours committed and dedicated to the
sport known as wrestling. We wrestle, fight and scrap, just
to make each other better. We push each other beyond our
normal limits, get mad, bloody each others noises, sweat
together and watch our weight. As a wrestler's parent you
drive hours to compete, sit in uncomfortable bleachers or
lawn chairs just so your sons can compete for seconds or
minutes at a time. The Coaching Staff Thanks every parent
for giving wrestling a try, we thank every kid for
attempting to step on the mat and be the best that he can
be.
EXCITING, is
one word that describes THE FUTURE of AWC! How can we
lose? We can't! We are building a foundation that will
only get stronger. Someone once told me, " there is
Strength in Numbers". Based on this past folkstyle season,
I see the numbers, I see the strength, I see Accomplishment
and Success for the Avon Wrestling Club family.
Thank You for your Commitment
and Dedication to the Avon Wrestling Club,

AWC would like to
extend a thank you to all who volunteered their time at the
first ever AWC sponsored wrestling tournament on February 21st.
We were able to attract 200 plus wrestlers to the tournament,
and look forward to it growing in the future. We heard
nothing but positive feedback from all involved, and this was
directly attributed to each of you. Thanks for you
efforts.

A sign up sheet is located on the window outside the coach's
office for the AWC Beginners Tournament on 2/21/10. We will
need approximately 30-40 volunteers to host this tournament. The
volunteers will be running the concession stand, assisting with
registration of wrestlers, table help, accepting money from
spectators, etc. We greatly appreciate any help that you can
provide. If you have questions, please send an email to Jan
Bowman at
AWCTournament@avonwrestling.org.
