Finishing off a career
Seniors
Blaine Hall and Cole Brandt competed on February 19th and 20th, in
the IHSAA Individual State Tournament. Blaine capped off a
great career with a season record of 31 - 9 and a 7th place finish.
This pushed his career record to 117 - 31, placing him 6th on the
Avon High School career wins list. This was a great
finish to an impressive wrestling career. Cole suffered an
upset on Friday night and was unable to secure a spot in the top
eight. This moved his record to 33 - 4 on the season, and 65 -
14 for his high school career. Cole had an impressive high
school career as a two-time state qualifier, and will now look to
continue his wrestling career at the collegiate level. We look
forward to providing updates on his collegiate wrestling career in
the near future.

Academic All-State
Nick
Acosta and Blaine Hall were named members of the 2010 Academic
All-State Team on February 17, 2010. They were able to secure
positions on the team by maintaining GPA's of 4.06 and 4.23
respectively. Joining them in their honors was Matt Rassbach,
as he was named Academic All-State Honorable Mention.
Congratulations to each of them on their dedication to both
academics and athletics. |

Four Advance to
Semi-State
Four AHS Wrestlers advanced to
the Evansville Semi-State by placing in the top four at the
Mooresville Individual Regional on Feb. 6th. Matt Rassbach did
so by claiming the 135lb title with a win over 17th ranked Cole VanHorn. Cole Brandt claimed the 171lb title with a 9-1
major decision over Jesse Ford. Blaine Hall secured his
position in the Semi-State with a 2nd place finish on the day. He
did so by recording two wins before eventually losing a close bout
to 3rd ranked Matt Milton. Quincy Pirtle also advanced with a
4th place finish on the day. All for wrestlers will compete
Saturday, February 13th, for a birth in the IHSAA
Individual State Tournament. |

2010 Sectional
Champions
The Avon High
School team captured it's third straight, 25th overall, IHSAA
Sectional title on Saturday, January 30th. They did so on the
strength of three champions, Matt Rassbach, Blaine Hall, and Cole
Brandt. Also making the finals were, Nick Acosta and Quincy
Pirtle. Montana Gipson, Alex Smith, and Brian Snyder also
secured a spot in next weeks Regional with third place finishes.
Jordan Mueller, Tasker Strobel, and Steven Klein pushed the team to
the title by completing the day with fifth place finishes. |

2010 Southmont
Elementary Duals
The Avon Wrestling Club sent two
teams to the Southmont Elementary Duals on January
10th. Avon Gold went 4 - 0 in their pool, by
defeating Westfield, Crawfordsville, Perry Meridian, and
Yorktown. This performance earned them an appearance in
the championship match, where they defeated Muncie Pal Wrestling
Club. Avon Black finished 1-4 on the day and finished 8th in the
ten team tournament.
AWC has just
completed their regular season matches and had a record
breaking season. The Avon Gold team finished 12-1 on the
season, while capturing titles at the Bloomington South
Elementary Duals, Southmont Elementary Duals. They
also earned a runner up finish at the Cathedral Irish Elementary
Duals. Congratulations to AWC on their record breaking
dual meet season.

2009
Hendricks County
The
Orioles won their record tying sixth consecutive
Hendricks County championship on Saturday
December 19, 2009. The team finished the day
with 174.5 points to outdistance Brownsburg's
156.5 points, and Danville's 147.5 points.
Plainfield, Cascade, and Tri-West rounded out
the field. Montana Gipson was able to wrestle
his way to a fourth place finish. Jordan
Mueller, Steven Klein, and Alex Smith were able
to bring home a third place finish. Nick Acosta
and Jake Williams battled into the championship
match where they secured second place finishes.
Matt Rassbach, Blaine Hall, Cole Brandt, and
Quincy Pirtle led the team by winning individual
titles.

Irish
Duals Results
Sunday December 6th the Avon Wrestling Club took
part in the Irish Elementary Wrestling Duals at
Indpls. Cathedral High School. AWC finished 3
and 0 in their pool and lost in the Championship
Match to the host Irish Wrestling Club. Avon
defeated Bloomington South in round one, topped
Evansville Blue in the second round, and
defeated Indy Southside (Roncalli) in round
three. Avon had 37 wrestlers in attendance, 28
wrestlers competed in the Elementary Duals and
seven other wrestlers attended to get exhibition
matches. |

Bloomington South Elementary Duals

The Avon Wrestling Club started their season with a bang at the
Bloomington South Elementary Duals. The Gold
team went undefeated, with the help of wresters
Tyler Conley, Jaden Reynolds, Mason Miranda,
Tyler Miner, Jace Hietkamp, and Carson Brewer.
These wrestlers all posted 4-0 records to to
start the season. The Black team also had
a very strong showing. They were led by
Caleb Alvarez, Nolan McAfee, Aaron Conde, and
Lance Ellington, all of which were unbeaten on
the day. This early success can be
attributed to hard work and good drill
habits from all wrestlers involved. Great
job to all participants.

2009 AAU Scholastic Duals - (DISNEY DUALS)
While
wrestling on the Penn Extreme Black team, Avon wrestlers Matt
Rassbach and Cole Brandt lost only two matches between them.
Both wrestlers finished with All-American honors for their efforts.
Matt wrested 135 pounds and finished with a 7 - 2 record and a
bronze medal. Cole finished with an unblemished 9 - 0 record
and a gold medal in the 171 pound weight class.
Congratulations to both wrestlers on their success and we look
forward to seeing their hard work payoff this winter.

2009
ISWA Freestyle State Results
On May 2nd and 3rd Nine AWC wrestlers
competed in the 2009 ISWA
Freestyle
State Tourney. Seven of the wrestlers captured medals by
placing the top eight of their respective weight class. Youth
wrestlers placing for AWC were Nicholas Lammers(7th), Tyler
Miner(4th), Carson Brewer(5th), and Cody Kammerer(5th). High School
wrestlers placing were Blaine Hall(7th), Matt Rassbach(8th), and
Nick Acosta(6th). Congratulations to all of these AWC wrestlers on a
successful year.

2009 HYWAY State Champions
Congratulations to Carson Brewer and Quinn
Harris on winning the 2009 HYWAY State tournament for their age a
weight divisions.

2009 Schoolboy Folkstyle State
Results
Congratulations to Quinn Harris on his 5th
place finish at the ISWA Folkstyle State tournament. Quinn
went 2-2 in the Schoolboy 70 pound weight class. Also winning
matches at the schoolboy level were, Brendon Helm and Zach Williams.

2009 ISWA Schoolboy-Junior Folkstyle State Results
Action began early Saturday morning with
wrestlers in the Cadet and Junior age divisions competing to win an
ISWA folkstyle state title. Avon Wrestling Club fielded five
wrestlers among the two divisions.
Cole Brandt was AWC's top competitor, with a 2nd place finish in the
Junior 171 division. While Cole fell just short of the top, he
finished ahead of several 2009 IHSAA State Qualifiers. Jonathan
Fidler had a strong performance with a 3-2 record in the Cadet 119
division. Also, Montana Gipson, Logan Luce, and Quincy Pirtle each
won matches in their respective divisions. Check back soon for
updates from the Schoolboy age divisions.

2009 ISWA
PW - Novice Folkstyle State Results
Avon Wrestling Club continued
competition at the 2009
ISWA
folkstyle state tournament on Sunday, March 8. Although only
four wrestlers competed, AWC was able to bring home more medals than
on Saturday. Leading the way was Pee-Wee 55 pounder Nicholas
Lammers, with a 3-2 record
and
a 5th place medal. After a few intense matches, Tanner Brandt
and Gunnar Larson received 8th place medals in their divisions.
Also competing for AWC was Dana Dech. Congratulations to all
Avon Wrestling Club wrestlers on a successful season.

2009 ISWA PW - Novice Folkstyle State Results
The first day of
competition
proved to be fierce for Avon Wrestling Club. AWC
entered 13 wrestlers in the tournament Saturday, of which
most had never competed at the state level. Several
wrestlers obtained quality wins, but only one would leave
the tournament with a medal. Jace Heitkamp finished
with in 5th place at Intermediate 70, with a tournament
record of 6-2. Carson Brewer followed close behind
winning three of his five matches. Tyler Conley, Cohen
Murrell, Mason Miranda, and Lance Ellington all finished 2-2
on the day. Dax Medvesik, Dennis Mercer, Tyler Miner,
Nathan Conley, and Camden Murrell each won a match in their
respective weights. Also taking the mat for AWC was
Jaden Reynolds, Trae Reynolds, and Andrew Frank.
Congratulations to each of these wrestlers on their
accomplishments this folkstyle season.
